One of Michoacán’s main draws is its handicraft tradition. With its prolific production of ceramics, metalwork, weaves and basketwork, Michoacán’s handicrafts stand out because of their particular attractiveness. You can appreciate the secular Michoacán handicraft tradition at the Casa de Artesanías, a place not to be missed by anyone who appreciates beautifully made objects. Located in the old Convento de San Francisco, the Casa de Artesanías is a museum as well as a shop. From the main square, take Calle Valladolid to the big plaza where you cannot miss the old Convent.
You can see a collection of objects made with local techniques at the Hotel Mansión de Cupatitzio. Opposite the hotel, by the entrance to the park, you will come across the popular handicrafts market, where you can have a pleasant time browsing the stalls. However, undoubtedly the most spectacular market in Uruapan opens on Palm Sunday each year, when hundreds of artisans come down from their villages on the plateau to sell their products. Here you will find something really special.

There are also art galleries worth a visit, including Galeria Las Mercedes, and the one in the Hotel Casino. The Hotel Los Juaninos will soon open a gallery with handicrafts and gourmet products.
